Science Classes

Our classes are fun filled, highly interactive and designed for curious and inquisitive children aged 4 to 14.

We put the children at the heart of our programme, as together we explore the world and beyond! Expect a new scientific topic every week, as well as music, creative play, hands-on science and a range of educational activities.

The Little Science Society is all about promoting scientific methods and even scientific language skills. Our methods encourage confidence and social skills as the children learn to work together. Our classes prepare young curious minds for a lifetime of learning.

Exciting adventures include:

  • Out of this world – all about The Solar System, Space and Universe
  • What’s inside your outside? – all about human body
  • Explosive periodically lab – chemistry
  • What a waste! – sustainability
  • Bee or not to bee? – animals and plants
  • A, B, Sea. – marine environment
  • What goes up must come down! – physics
  • Geology rocks! – all about rock cycle, volcanoes and fossils.

To enable children to meet their developmental milestones, and ensure that they get the most of each session, we recommend our classes for children from 30 months to 4 years old.

We make learning fun!

Child and Grown-up Science Workshops take place every month, on Saturday morning at Horsebridge Arts Centre Whitstable.

Child Benefits
  • Preparation for school – We actively encourage turn taking, socialising, sharing and following a routine. The programme has been devised in line with Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage and linked with KS1&2 Statutory Curriculum in terms of the nature, processes, methods of science and language skills.
  • Each session lasts for 40 minutes and follows a set format. This is so the children know what to expect each week and learn through active recall and repetition. Recent research has established that repeated retrieval enhances learning with a wide range of materials, in a variety of settings and contexts, and with learners ranging from preschool ages into later adulthood (Balota, Duchek, Sergent-Marshall & Roediger, 2006; and Fritz, Morris, Nolan & Singleton, 2007).
  • We encourage and support the grownups who attend to join in and carry on the learning experience at home with their children.
  • We promote enthusiasm about science and how it relates to everyday situations – Science is everywhere to be found, all the time.
